LARGE 50cm+ Hydrangea 'Petiolaris' - Low Maintenance Climbing Plant. Will grow from full sun to full shade including a North Wall

Key Information:  Product Code: ESTPETIOLARIS

Name: LARGE 50cm+ Hydrangea 'Petiolaris' - Low Maintenance Climbing Plant. Will grow from full sun to full shade including a North Wall

Description: The climbing hydrangea 'Petiolaris' is an extremely useful low-maintenance climber and is the best climber you will find for a shady or north facing wall. It will provide you with an abundance of white lace cap flowers heads that will lift the darkest of corners throughout the summer months. This climbing hydrangea will also prove to be just as valuable and found thriving in sunnier sites in moist soils (the only difference, however, is that the flowers do not last for quite so long in a very sunny spot, but are still spectacular). This hardy, deciduous, climbing plant (although traditionally used as a climbing plant, can also be used for groundcover) has richly coloured glossy dark green heart-shaped leaves which turn to buttercup yellows in autumn. In the winter garden, there is no deciduous vine that beats this variety for sheer beauty. The stems are a gorgeous cinnamon-orange colour with twists and turns that stand out magnificently in winter. This vine is so easy maintenance that it really is in your interest not to dead-head, as again there is no vine quite like it in the winter garden as the old flower heads on the plant look magical when frosted because of their sheer size and intricacy. Once the roots have found their feet Hydrangea 'Petiolaris' will romp away up a wall or over a trellis or pergola very well indeed whilst at the same time not becoming a nuisance plant. They can be used to hide all manner of things, sheds, unsightly fencing panels or neighbours! In midsummer the white lacecap-style hydrangea flowers are huge, up to 10in (25cm) across, and can almost cover the stems completely. The stems cling to the walls by adventitious roots, so in order to do well, do prefer a little support. This family of Hydrangea are a very low maintenance climbing plant and only need a little light pruning to keep them in the shape you desire. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM). AVAILABLE FROM LATE MAY
