This combination of plants growing in your garden will provide you with quick growing privacy together with interesting foliage and flowers. 'Russian Vine' is a very hardy climbing plant that originates from South East Russia and belongs to the family Polygonaceae, and has picked up a few names along its journey. Russian Vine planted in the right position is a superb climber and it is no exageration, on a warm day in the main growing season you can watch it climbing. Russian Vine is deciduous and has very strong healthy looking foliage from spring to late autumn, so great for covering sheds, pergolas, walls, fences and screening from unsightly objects and neighbours! Russian Vine, can also be used for growing up trees for added enjoyment. In August and September Russian Vine is literally smothered with panicles of tiny, funnel-shaped, pink-tinged white flowers.
You can plant Russian Vine in any position and it will tolerate any soil type.
Clematis 'Mile-A-Minute Elizabeth' with its scented delicately coloured pale pink flowers, and pale yelllow stamens, is great for covering sheds, pergolas, walls and for growing up trees for added enjoyment - throughout May, June and July this Clematis just looks sensational.
The scented pink flowers are paler in the middle and towards the base. The scent can range from vanilla to hot chocolate. Clematis 'Elizabeth' has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
Clematis 'Elizabeth' is fully hardy and will even grow on a north facing wall. The leaves are an attractive dark green shade and dense hence its nick name 'the mile a minute clematis'. No pruning is required for this particular variety unless you wish to restrict the spread.
Clematis 'Grandiflora' is a wonderful fast growing climbing plant which can be grown in any aspect and does not require pruning. It has scented white flowers in spring and on maturing vines later in the season. Has very strong healthy looking foliage which is great for covering sheds, pergolas, walls, fences and screening from unsightly objects and neighbours! Can also be used for growing up trees for added enjoyment. The scented white flowers have yellow anthers in the middle . The scent can range from vanilla to hot chocolate. This plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
There are two kinds of shrubby Lonicera with varied uses around the garden. The best performing plants are the foliage kinds of which this is arguably the most superior and makes a superb garden border shrub. Lonicera 'Baggersen's Gold' is also popular for growing as a dwarf formal hedge (or can be used in topiary) and kept clipped to the same outlines that can be achieved as with box shaping- without the dreaded blight that box hedging is prone to! Lonicera 'Baggersen's Gold' is a dense and quick growing, easy to establish shrub and can be pruned to any size or shape. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM). It is ideal for bulking up mixed borders and is brightest in summer and in the picture can be seen in a mixed border with Pieris 'Forrest Flame' backing up to the shrub. This makes a superb planting combination! 'Baggesen's Gold is fully hardy and great for planting in good sized patio containers where it will provide beautiful sweet scented year round foliage interest. In the base of the picture you can see it at good use as a low Evergreen front border plant to define your property. It even withstands dogs cocking their legs against it!!! Flower arrangers love this plant too as it is an endless source of fine arching shoots covered by small, bright yellow leaves and is such a perfect contrast to green. Yellow-green flowers are produced in spring and on occasion these flowers are followed by mature fruits. Lonicera 'Baggersen's Gold' will brighten and lighten the deep richness of fir, camellia or leylandii, even on the dullest winter days.
