Key Information:  Product Code: ESTPICARDY

Name: LARGE 70cm+ Clematis Picardy ™ Evipo024. This Hardy Perennial Climber has been container grown so can be planted at any time of the year. We despatch WITH container so the roots are safe.

Description: Clematis Picardy™ is particularly suitable for container growing. A Very free flowering red-purple clematis and one of a number of short-growing clematis from the 'Boulevard Collection'. 'Picardy' is an unusual variety with 10-12cm (4-6in) dusky red flowers. These have a brighter red bar on their sepals and reddish dark brown anthers that complement the red petals. They are versatile plants that will adapt to most soils. We are often asked to recommend climbing plants for old sinks and troughs which have been recycled into patio containers and Clematis make much better subjects than most climbers and all but the large, vigorous types can be grown in containers, but try to track down one from the 'Boulevard Collection': 'Angelique', 'Cezanne', 'Chantilly', 'Parisienne' 'Picardy' 'Ooh La La' 'Fleuri' and 'Abilene'. These are compact and have been bred to flower along the stem, where older cultivars can just flower towards the tips. Evision™ and Poulsen™ have developed a range of Clematis which flower throughout the summer, which are resistant to withering disease and which can be planted indoors in pots or outdoors in either pots or trained up a wall or trellis. This variety is a dwarf variant, producing single to semi double, medium sized flowers of 10-12cm. It can stand in a light room or conservatory and when it has finished flowering can be planted in the garden. When asked for his top 10 of clematis Raymond Evison had this at no 5 with the reasons why:"I've chosen clematis that will: • perform well in the garden, • deliver plenty of flowers over a long period of time, • be colourful • are easy to grow and maintain." - 5) Picardy™ (='Evipo024). A designer clematis which meets all the criteria a clematis plant should have for growing in a container: medium size flowers produced over a long period, repeat flowering, easy to maintain, simple pruning each spring. Will do well in a container or in the soil in the garden, ideal for a small town garden, in any aspect.
