Clematis 'Comtesse de Bouchaud' is a restful velvet shell-pink flowering Clematis with cream or pale yellow anthers, flowering from mid-summer right through to early autumn. This Clematis variety has received the very presitigious Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit (AGM). Perhaps the reason this climber is such a favourite and so prized is because of the eyecatching beautiful flowers, which are some 4 - 6" in size, most as large as your hand. This Clematis is very easy to grow and another one of the main advantages of this climbing plant is that it is much less prone to clematis-wilt. As early as 1912, William Robinson in his book 'The Virgin's Bower' lists this cultivar as 'trusted to give lovely effects if culture and position be all it deserves'. Clematis 'Comtesse de Bouchaud' is named after the wife of a Count who had a garden at Chasselay on the Rhone in France. A hardy cultivar and will grow in any aspect and is very free-flowering. Flowers from July to September and requires hard pruning to a strong pair of buds in early spring. 'Queen of the Pinks' and simply exquisite grown on its own or the perfect companion for growing through shrubs, small trees and climbing roses when several colours are mixed.
